Are you ready to take your writing to the next level?

Are you ready to improve your writing skills? Do you feel like you have a great idea, but aren't sure how to cultivate it?

I’m Myah Rayne, a freelance journalist, writer, and content creator. I can help you bring your ideas to life while providing guidance, reassurance, and recommendations.

What to avoid when cultivating your idea

It is not enough to just have an idea. Once you have it, you must “mold” it. I am an art instructor who teaches with various mediums of art. When I work with clay, the first thing I tell my students is to “warm it up” in their hands. This makes the clay flexible, so you can shape it into what you want. It is the same thing with ideas, especially with writing.

Did you know that one of the main failures in writing isn’t in what you have on the page, but the psychological hurdles behind it, like fear of failure? “The Road to Nowhere” begins when you end an idea before it even has a chance to come to life. You can have a good idea that could positively affect someone’s life but without taking the right steps, it will remain unrealized. I’m here to guide you through that process.

Breakdown to Break Through: Brainstorming

Do you have an idea but aren't sure of what path to take? Avoid these mistakes before moving forward:

Mistake #1: Not Reading Enough

Reading can help bring forth ideas and can inspire you on what path to take. By reading books, articles, and short stories, you expose yourself to various types of writing styles and techniques. Failing to read can jeopardize your thought process and lead to writer's block.

Mistake #2: Procrastination

We all have the tendency to put something off when we have no idea how to start. It’s completely normal; however, this can lead to abandonment. Instead, developing a consistent writing schedule creates discipline and can build self-esteem.

Breakdown to Breakthrough: Psychological Failures

Are you struggling to get started due to pressure and low self-esteem? Here are a few things to consider:

Mistake #1: Fear of failure

As mentioned above, fear of failure can be one of the main things that kills an idea. Being paralyzed with fear can restrict creativity. Instead, try to create without thinking and without attachment. By creating just to create, you relieve yourself of the pressure to make it “perfect”. You may also get a better sense of what you do want to create.

Mistake #2: Isolation

Humans tend to isolate themselves when they have a deep fear of being misunderstood. Instead, try to be in a community of fellow writers. This could be through writing events, online chat forums, or your close friends.

Mistake #3: Impatience

Many individuals expect immediate success from their creations. That is hardly ever the case. This can lead to abandoning projects before they can even get started. Instead, stay the course and focus more on the journey rather than the outcome. You will have to work hard if this is something that you want.

How to break through to your most creative self

Together, we can give life to an idea. Here’s how we are going to get started:

Step 1: Write

I know. It sounds simple. However, it is a bit more complex than that. An idea can easily get forgotten. It is important to write it down.

An idea can (and oftentimes is) be very broad. I will need to spend some sessions with you to discuss your idea, the format you want to use (articles, blog posts, book) and any deadlines you were given. As we become more focused on what it is that we are creating, I can help you flesh out your idea, like characters, dialogue, conflict, audience expectations, and genres.

Step 2: Flesh out your idea

This is where we begin giving your idea some “flesh and bone”. Let’s say you want to work on creating a novel. We would start by creating an outline. Here are some things to consider in your outline:

-Consider your audience. Who are you writing for? Who can enjoy or relate to this?

-What genre of writing would you like to do? Think of your favorite authors and what writing style they use and whether you can mimic it.

-Creating a story with strong characters, excellent plot, and create a flow.

Step 3: Write again

The previous writing was more about notes and outlines to help you get started. This is where you truly start putting what you've created on the page.

Do not panic. I will not leave you on your own. I will help you with formatting based on the writing genre you prefer. As a writer, the way you format a piece of writing dictates how you grab your audience's attention.

Step 4: Edit

This is probably the most important part of writing. All writers will tell you -- edit, edit, edit. I will proofread your work and will edit along the way.

Capturing your audience's attention is a golden rule. Once you have that attention, it’s also important to keep it. This can be done through descriptive writing and is placed towards the beginning of your piece.

Step 5: The Breakthrough

Getting started is often the hardest part. From here on out, it should be a breeze. However, I will still be with you every step of the way. I will check-in with you, have weekly meetings, and revision sessions where I edit your draft.

Ready to start your writing journey? Let’s connect and have a break free from “The Road to Nowhere.” Together, we will give your idea “flesh and bone”.
